InstantPointer turns the mouse cursor instantly into a brightly coloured virtual Laser Pointer", for example during screen presentations Presentations directly from the computer screen with the aid of a video beamer become more and more popular. Traditional mouse cursor shapes like arrow, hand or cross are very useful for screen work, but less useful for screen presentations, since it is quite hard for the audience to always find the pointer. InstantPointer is designed to fill this gap. While residing in the background, InstantPointer listens to certain hot key combinations. Upon <ctrl>-<cmd>-<space> it instantly turns the mouse cursor into a brightly coloured virtual Laser Pointer", and also toggles it back to the default cursor. When it receives <ctrl>-<cmd>-<0...9>, it instantly changes the pointers colour. Holding down the mouse button it enables you to draw translucently on the screen in the colour of the given pointer. Holding down the shift key makes it more easy to draw straight lines. Finally <ctrl>-<cmd>-<backspace> refreshes the screen. InstantPointer operates without disturbing the host applications like Acrobat Reader, AppleWorks or PowerPoint neither in full screen mode nor in standard mode. Those host applications do not even take notice of the presence of InstantPointer. By this way, a crash due to InstantPointer becomes rather unlikely. InstantPointer is Freeware. Imagine you are writing some text with a word processor coming to a point where you need to enter the result of a calculation. Wouldn´t it be nice if you could enter the calculation instead and let the computer place the result at the cursor position for you? Imagine you are working in a graphics or desktop publishing application and need to enter a distance in the measurement window which for example should be the square root of 50. Wouldn´t it be nice if you could enter sqrt(50) instead and let the computer place 7.0711 at the right position for you? If you are a programmer, imagine you are working with your favourite text editor and need to calculate an address from hexadecimals. Wouldn´t it be nice if you could enter for example &$1234 + $5678 at the place of your program where you need the address and let the computer exchange the expression to $68AC for you? If you are a chemist, imagine you need to know the molecular weight of sulphuric acid. Wouldn´t it be nice if you could type in H*2+S+O*4 and let the computer place 98.07948 at the cursor position for you?
Imagine you want to buy a new high end Apple Macintosh for a price of 5000. For that you need a credit which should be payed back within 24 months at an interest rate of 6.25 % per year. What should be the monthly down payment? « 5000 · (1+0.0625/12)^24 - x · ā(1+0.0625/12)^k> k; 0; 23] » x; 5000/24] = 222.17 Naturally, 5000/annuity(0.0625/12; 24) = 222.17 gives the same number. Sometimes nice dreams come true. InstantCalc does all this and more. It calculates mathematical expressions instantaneously. That means, enter the expression you want to calculate at any place where text can be exchanged by the clipboard, select it with the mouse, and press the hot key. InstantCalc copies the selected expression into the clipboard and pastes back the result at the given position for you! InstantCalc is Freeware. Please request your free registration code by writing an e-mail to InstantWare(at)cyclaero.com. The InstantCalc package contains also the simple stand alone calculator SimpleCalc. This is not essential for InstantCalc. Though, you might want to give it a try. New in version 1.6.1:

InstantXRates is useful only in combination with the InstantCalc Package (Version 1.6 an better). It is a small application and its only purpose is to update the InstantCalc User Functions with 48 currency exchange rates via internet with respect to the Euro (Euro fixing). Additionally 12 former european currencies which phased out at the beginning of 2002 in favour to the Euro are added to the InstantCalc User Functions at the first start of InstantXRates. Those currencies have irrevocably fixed exchange rates since 1 January 1999 and need not be updated via internet. InstantXRates is Freeware. Operation
The exchange rates can be used with InstantCalc immediately.

Note: Depending on the actual rates, the results of the above calculations may vary in the future. Version 1.1.1:

FractionalBoldPatch: Patches a bug in MacOS 8.5 and 8.5.1 If fractional character width is enabled, bold face types are displayed with extra white space. This looks rather odd and breaks WYSIWYG when printing. The bug was found first in the German release of MacOS 8.5, and confirmed to be in the U.S. release, and other international releases too. The U.S. and the German MacOS update 8.5.1 do not correct the bug! The FractionalBoldBug has been fixed in MacOS 8.6 and MacOS 9. This was confirmed for the German and the U.S. release. Therefore, updating to MacOS 8.6 or upgrading to MacOS 9 is highly recommended, and you wouldn´t need the patch. FractionalBoldPatch corrects the bug without any major impact on system performance and appearance. Since this symptom was introduced with MacOS 8.5 and has been corrected in MacOS 8.6 and MacOS 9, the patch needs only to be used for MacOS 8.5 and 8.5.1. We got several responses, stating that FractionalBoldPatch solves typesetting problems introduced with MacOS 8.5 in Framemaker, Canvas, QuarkXPress, PageMaker, ClarisWorks and MS Word. Since FractionalBoldPatch corrects the system bug, it is most likely that several other applications will benefit from it too! FractionalBoldPatch is free. |
